“You erased my daughter to protect her?”
“Rachel requested separation.”
“Did she request that I never know?”
“She feared you would challenge the arrangement.”
“Did you tell her I consented?”
Thomas looked away.
Adam understood.

Emma was raised under another surname while a trust attached to Adam’s insurance funded her care.
Grant discovered the account.
Lily and Emma together controlled the successor shares.

Ramos searched the ledger for Emma’s location.

Neighbors said a woman and ten-year-old girl left that morning in a black SUV.
The woman matched Evelyn Caldwell.
Grant’s wife had taken Emma before attempting to seize Lily from the hospital.
The two children were never separate targets.

Rachel’s blood was found near the back door.
No body.
No sign of Emma.
Adam’s anger toward Thomas became almost unbearable.
“You took my choice. You took hers. You made a child grow up believing she was unwanted.”

“Yes.”
No justification followed.
For once, he allowed the cruelty to stand without renaming it protection.
Ramos received a call from Grant.
He wanted a second exchange.
The real micro-key for both children.
In return, he would release Melissa and Emma.
Adam demanded proof.
A video appeared.
Melissa sat inside a dim warehouse.
Emma was beside her, frightened but unharmed.
The girl had Adam’s eyes.
Evelyn stood behind them.
Grant was not visible.
Melissa spoke carefully.
“Adam, Emma believes Evelyn is her aunt.”
Emma looked toward the camera.
“Are you my father?”
Adam could not answer through the one-way feed.
Evelyn leaned into view.
“Bring Lily’s archive key to the boardroom tomorrow morning.”
“Why the boardroom?” Ramos asked.
Evelyn smiled.
“Because Mercer Dynamics owns Northstar now.”
The merger had not been approved.
Yet corporate records showed the transfer completed at 12:03 a.m.
Adam’s biometric authorization appeared on every document.
He had never touched the system.
Thomas examined the timestamp.
“The signature came from my remote.”
The presentation device he carried at the depot contained Adam’s old biometric data from the climbing clinic.
Thomas had unknowingly brought the final authorization.
Or he had known and was lying.
