Adam studied the dates.

The merger waiting in the boardroom would not expand Adam’s business.

He called the directors back into session under police monitoring.
Warren sat at the far end, furious.
“You are turning family betrayal into a conspiracy theory.”
Adam connected the insurance cases to the display.
“The same trust received temporary voting control in all three.”
“That proves standard risk management.”
“The same woman created every policy.”
Warren looked toward Diane Roth.
“End this presentation.”
Diane did not move.
Ramos stood beside the boardroom door.
“No one is ending anything until we identify who accessed the forged hospital order.”
Adam opened Melissa’s next archive file.
She recorded it inside the hotel before Grant discovered the hidden camera.
Her lip was bleeding, but she remained conscious.
“Adam, Grant and I began before I understood what he was doing. I was angry that you cared more about the company than our marriage. I wanted someone who saw me.”
Adam lowered his eyes.
The affair was not invented.
Neither was the resentment beneath it.
“I helped him copy your signature,” Melissa continued. “I gave him access to your medical records. I believed he was protecting me if you ever tried to take Lily.”
The confession hurt because it contained choices made freely.
“Then I found the other families.”
Melissa held up the insurance folder.
“Grant’s trust does not pay only if Adam dies. It receives Northstar shares whenever the policy declares him incapacitated, missing, or criminally detained.”
The staged attack at the house served several outcomes.
If Adam panicked and fled the boardroom, Warren would claim instability.
If he went home before police arrived, Melissa’s note would place him at the crime scene.
If he remained downtown, the board would vote without him.
Every response had been anticipated.
Except the disabled cameras restoring themselves through Adam’s private archive.
Melissa leaned close to the lens.
“I told Lily everyone would believe Adam did it because those were Grant’s exact words. I needed her to remember them.”
The footage shifted.
Grant entered the hotel room.
Melissa concealed the recording device.
He told her Warren had approved the next phase.
“Lily goes to Evelyn,” Grant said. “Adam disappears after the board vote.”
“What happens to me?”
“You become the grieving widow.”
“And if I refuse?”
Grant placed a photograph on the table.
It showed Melissa’s younger brother, Sean, inside a county jail.
Melissa believed Sean died from an overdose six months earlier.
Grant had kept him alive under another identity.
He had another hostage.
Melissa agreed to continue.
Before the video ended, Grant mentioned a location.
Northstar Recovery Center.
Ramos searched the name.
It did not appear publicly.
