Chapter 12 - The photograph in the coffin
The photograph of Noah inside the empty coffin was not sentimental.
It was a threat.
Investigators found a matching digital image on Richard’s printer history.
Printed the night before the funeral.
Why put it inside?
Richard eventually claimed it represented Emily’s love for their son.
Ortiz did not believe that.
Neither did I.
Noah remembered Richard saying two days before the funeral:
“Your mother made choices that could take you away from me.”
Then:
“Sometimes people disappear because they don’t know when to stop.”
Noah did not understand.
Later, seeing his picture in the coffin, he became terrified that Richard planned to “put me in one too.”
No evidence supported that Richard intended to harm Noah physically.
