Instead she requested an Adult Protective Services assessment.
Allegation:
Potential emotional coercion and inappropriate surveillance by daughter-in-law caregiver.
When I received the letter, I nearly screamed.
Daniel said:
“We cooperate.”
I stared at him.
“You’re serious?”
“Yes.”
“She hits me, lies, and now I’m investigated?”
“Yes.”
I hated him for one minute.
Then understood.
If we wanted outside systems when Evelyn hurt me, we did not get to reject outside systems when she made an allegation.
APS interviewed:
Me.
Daniel.
Evelyn.
Judith.
Her doctors.
Reviewed housing arrangements.
Food access.
Finances.
No finding that I had financially exploited her.
No evidence I withheld medication.
No evidence I isolated her from family.
Concern was noted about household conflict and the secret camera.
Recommendation:
May you like
Separate living arrangements.
That was reasonable.
