Chapter 13 - Michael’s first mistake
Michael made his own mistake.
He visited Sarah alone.
Did not tell me until afterward.
His intent:
Get an apology.
Result:
Sarah spent ninety minutes convincing him I was trying to isolate him from his family.
She said:
“First Rebecca died. Now Emily is taking my grandchildren.”
That hit exactly where she knew it would.
Michael came home withdrawn.
I noticed.
Then found out.
“You went there?”
“Yes.”
“After we agreed no contact for now?”
“I went alone.”
“That is still contact.”
“She’s my mother.”
“And Olivia is your daughter.”
“I know.”
“Do you?”
He slammed his palm onto the counter.
Not at me.
Still loud enough that Olivia cried in the next room.
Michael froze.
Everything changed.
He went to her immediately.
Picked her up.
Apologized.
Later he told me:
“Mom got into my head, and I brought it back here.”

That became his turning point.
