Chapter 5 - What Jake described
Jake’s formal forensic interview happened the next morning.
I did not sit in.
Christine did not sit in.
A trained interviewer named Olivia Grant spoke with him.
Jake said Grandpa found “the little brown key” in his backpack.
Jake said it was not his.
Grandpa called him a liar.
Brian was there.
Scott was there.
Mom was there.
Grandpa told Jake:
“You’re going to tell me where the rest is.”
What rest?
Jake did not know.
Grandpa said:
“Papers.”
Then Jake said Brian grabbed his arms because he tried to leave.
Scott held his legs after Jake kicked.
Did they punch him?
Brian did not.
Scott did not.
Harold slapped him once.
That caused part of the facial bruising.
Then Harold squeezed Jake’s jaw and demanded:
“Who told you to go into my office?”
Jake said:
“Nobody.”
Harold became angrier.
At one point Jake twisted hard enough that Brian lost one wrist.
Jake fell sideways against the edge of a wooden side table.
That impact likely caused additional bruising near his cheek and shoulder.
No one deliberately smashed his face into furniture.
Again:
Precise.
The adults’ behavior was already serious.
No need to invent worse.
Jake said Christine cried.
He said she told Harold:
“Dad, stop.”
Then Harold shouted:
“Stay out of this.”
Christine backed away.
She did not physically intervene.
She did not call police.

That was the part she would have to explain.
