Chapter 24 - Vanessa writes to Emma
Vanessa could not contact Emma directly.
Eventually, through attorneys and Emma’s therapist, she submitted a letter.
I read it first.
Emma, I hit you with the pan.

You did not make me do it.

Sitting in Lily’s chair did not make me do it.

Eating the eggs did not make me do it.

I was angry because I believed you were ignoring me. Adults are responsible for what they do when they are angry.
Then:
I am sorry I scared you and hurt you.

Emma was six by then.
Her therapist asked if she wanted it read.
She said no.
Later, at seven, she asked.
She listened.
Then said:
“Aunt Vanessa knows it was her?”
“Yes.”
“Okay.”
