Chapter 25 - The basement house

Jason sold the house two years after the escape.
Not because the basement was evil.
Because neither child wanted to live there.
He had tried returning once after temporary placement ended.
Leo stood in the foyer and vomited.
That ended the experiment.
Jason rented an apartment first.
No basement.
Then bought a small one-story house after the divorce.
When he sold the old property, he asked whether I wanted anything from the basement.
“No.”
Leo wanted one thing.
A red plastic dinosaur.
Police had returned property long before.
Jason found it in a toy bin.
He brought it.
Leo washed it.
Put it on his bookshelf.
For months I wondered why.
Then he told me:
“It was mine before downstairs.”
