Chapter 7 - The wrist
The older wrist fracture came from another fall.
At least according to Leo.
Weeks earlier, he tried to pull Maya onto the basement couch after she climbed onto a shelf.
Leo slipped.
Landed on his hand.
Rachel gave him an ice pack.
His wrist hurt for days.
Jason was home that week.
That changed things.
Police asked Jason whether Leo complained.
“Yes.”
What did Rachel tell him?
That Leo fell playing superheroes.
Jason remembered swelling.
He told Leo:
“You’ll be fine.”
No doctor.
Again.
Jason sat in the interview room and cried.
I did not see it.
The detective told me later only because the family court record eventually described his statement.
Jason had not known about the locked basement, according to him.
But he had known both injuries existed.
He accepted explanations.
