Chapter 14 - THE WOMAN WEARING ISABELLA’S FACEMoretti Hall’s internal cameras showed Isabella walking through the grand corridor.

Same black uniform.
Same pinned hair.
Same height and movements.
The duplicate carried the blue rabbit.
The real toy remained in Emma’s hands at Saint Orison.
The woman entered the chapel and placed the copy beside the thirteenth chair.
Alessandro ordered every guard at the estate to detain her.
No one responded.
Sofia had replaced the night security team before the gathering.
The duplicate Isabella opened the Black Ledger’s inner chamber using copied Bellandi biometrics.
Elena watched from the north tower.
She did not activate the alarm.
Alessandro saw her on camera.
“You’re helping them.”
Elena replied through the secure line.
“I am preventing Sofia from destroying Saint Orison.”
“She is taking the ledger.”
“She cannot open the final vault without Emma.”
“Then she will come for Emma.”
Elena looked away.
She had once again chosen control of the system over the immediate danger to a child.
Alessandro ended the call.
Federal agents secured Saint Orison’s rescued patients. Daniel remained with Lily and Emma while Isabella joined Alessandro’s return to the estate.
Vivian stayed beside Cecilia and Adriana under independent protection.
At Moretti Hall, the duplicate had vanished.
The thirteenth chamber stood open.
Inside was a steel vault bearing three handprints: Bellandi, Moretti, and founder.
The copy rabbit lay torn on the floor.
It had contained no key.
The duplicate had been searching for Emma’s real toy.
Isabella checked the damaged rabbit.
The black stitched ear was gone, but another object remained hidden inside the blue wool body.
A small brass key.
Emma had slept with it for three years without anyone discovering it.
Daniel recognized the engraving.
“It opens Antonio Bellandi’s personal box.”
The box sat inside the vault.
Alessandro, Isabella, and Elena had to provide the three authorizations.
Elena came down from the tower under armed escort.
She did not resist.
“You need me,” she said.
“No,” Isabella replied. “We need the access you stole.”
Technicians duplicated Elena’s biometric key under federal supervision. She would not retain control.
The vault opened.
Inside were original family ledgers, evidence files, and thirteen sealed envelopes—one for each family.
A fourteenth envelope bore Emma’s name.
Isabella reached for it.
A gun clicked behind her.
The duplicate stood in the doorway.
She no longer wore Isabella’s face.
Beneath the prosthetic was Sofia Moretti herself.
The rifle shot at Saint Orison had been fired by another substitute.
Sofia had returned to the estate disguised as the woman she intended to frame.
She aimed at Emma’s envelope.
“Give me the key.”
Alessandro raised his weapon.
“You cannot leave.”
“I don’t intend to.”
Sofia revealed a detonator connected to charges beneath the chapel.
“If the ledger cannot remain controlled, no family keeps it.”
Isabella looked at the vault shelves.
Decades of proof.
Protected identities.
Crimes.
Victims.
Another object no single person should control.
She handed the brass key to Alessandro.
Then she picked up Emma’s envelope.
Sofia tightened her grip on the detonator.
“Put it down.”
Isabella tore the envelope open.
Inside was a current photograph of Emma standing beside a man at the estate gate.
The old man who returned the rabbit.
Carlo Moretti.
Not the weakened patient in the wheelchair.
The man in the photograph stood upright and healthy.
Alessandro looked toward the chapel monitor.
The wheelchair patient remained under guard.
Two Carlos.
The person held by Sofia might be another substitute.
A handwritten note accompanied the photograph:
THE REAL KING NEVER ENTERED THE CHAPEL.
Sofia laughed.
“You thought this night was about finding the traitor.”
Alessandro stared at her.
“Who is the man at the gate?”
Sofia answered quietly.
May you like
“The person who ordered every one of us to play dead.”
👉 The photograph suggested Carlo had been free all along, directing the conspiracy from outside the estate.
