Chapter 5 - THE THIRTEENTH CHAIRAlessandro ordered an immediate search for Saint Orison.

No public hospital carried that name. The “children’s trust” funded private rehabilitation centers, addiction clinics, psychiatric residences, and juvenile placements across six states.
Any of them could contain Carlo.
Or the feed could be fabricated to control Alessandro.
Isabella studied the ledger table.
Thirteen shallow depressions surrounded its center, each shaped for a family signet ring. Twelve were empty.
The Bellandi position contained a small blue thread matching Emma’s rabbit.
Her father had expected the Bellandi heir to return with it.
“What happens if all thirteen rings are placed here?” Alessandro asked.
“The Black Ledger opens,” Vivian said.
“You know a great deal about this room.”
“My father brought me once when I was fourteen.”
“Why?”
“To show me what happened to girls who embarrassed their families.”
Isabella looked at her.
Vivian’s cruelty in the corridor suddenly carried a different history.
It did not excuse the slap.
But it explained where she had learned to use humiliation as armor.
“Who was held here?” Isabella asked.
“My older sister.”
Alessandro had been told Vivian was an only child.
Her sister, Cecilia, opposed Vincent’s alliance with Sofia and threatened to contact federal prosecutors. Vincent had her declared mentally unstable through Saint Orison.
“She died in treatment,” Vivian said.
“Did you see her body?” Isabella asked.
Vivian’s eyes hardened.
“No.”
Every dead person in this world seemed to remain useful.
A guard called from the staircase.
Someone had breached the grand hall’s internal communications. The twelve family leaders were receiving messages on devices supposedly confiscated at entry.
Alessandro returned upstairs.
Each table’s hidden display showed the same live video: Daniel Bennett strapped to a chair while Sofia stood behind him.
“Good evening, families,” she said. “Alessandro has opened the chapel.”
The leaders erupted.
Some accused Alessandro of stealing their records. Others demanded the chamber be destroyed.
Sofia continued.
“The Bellandi heir has returned. If she places her hand on the thirteenth chair, every protected secret in the archive transfers to federal servers.”
Isabella had not known that.
Sofia looked into the camera.
“You may allow the housekeeper to destroy all twelve families, or you may surrender her daughter to me.”
The screen divided into twelve private files.
A senator’s hidden son.
A judge’s falsified guardianship order.
A family leader’s wife held under a false death certificate.
Each powerful guest saw the secret Sofia could expose.
Weapons appeared across the hall.
Alessandro’s guards raised theirs.
The alliance began breaking apart exactly as Sofia intended.
Isabella stepped onto the raised platform.
“Listen to me.”
Few did.
She grabbed a champagne bottle and shattered it against the marble table.
The sound silenced the hall.
“You are all staring at the proof of how she controls you,” Isabella said. “Every secret you protect becomes a weapon she owns.”
One family leader shouted, “Easy for a servant with nothing to lose.”
Isabella looked at him.
“My father was murdered. My husband was taken. My daughter was used as bait. I entered this house under a borrowed name because your families erased mine.”
She pointed toward the chapel.
“I have everything to lose. I am simply finished paying silence to keep it.”
Alessandro stood beside her.
“No one touches Isabella or Emma.”
Vincent DeLuca’s voice came from the rear balcony.
“Then you have chosen Bellandi over the Twelve.”
He had reentered through an upper passage with armed men.
Vivian stared at her father.
“You left me here.”
“I expected you to retrieve the rabbit.”
“You told me Daniel would help.”
“He did.”
Vincent raised a phone.
A video showed Daniel voluntarily handing him the blue rabbit two weeks before his disappearance.
Isabella watched her husband shake Vincent’s hand.
Daniel had not merely been captured while investigating them.

At some point, he had cooperated.
👉 The footage suggested Daniel willingly worked with the family that erased Isabella’s bloodline.
