He came into Lily’s room the morning after ICU transfer.
“I want to clarify something I said when we first looked at the film.”
I knew.
“Someone definitely forced her.”
“Yes.”
He nodded.
“I was reacting to an extremely abnormal and dangerous ingestion pattern, and I spoke more conclusively than imaging alone supports.”
“Were you wrong?”
“About concern? No.”
“About force?”
“The video and Lily’s later statements support coercion. But I should not have presented a medical image as if it could independently prove the mechanism.”
I respected him more for that.
“Will that hurt the case?”
“That is not my priority.”
“Mine either.”
We looked at Lily.
She was sitting up now.
Watching cartoons.
A drain had been removed.
She complained hospital pancakes were “wet.”
