Chapter 25 - PATRICIA ASKS FOR A VISITPatricia requested supervised contact almost eighteen months later.
Lily was seven.
We asked Lily.
She said:
“Will Grandma say I lied?”
“No.”
“If she does?”
“We leave.”
Lily thought.
“Okay.”
The meeting happened in a family center.
Patricia looked older.
She cried immediately.
The therapist stopped her.
“Patricia, this meeting is not for Lily to manage your feelings.”
I wanted to applaud.
Patricia took a breath.
Then:
“Lily, I’m sorry.”
Lily watched.
“You told me Connor hurt you and I did not listen.”
Good.
“I was scared he would get in trouble.”
Lily frowned.
“He should get in trouble.”
“Yes.”
“I got cut open.”
Patricia’s face broke.
“Yes.”
Lily looked at me.
Then back.
“You deleted me.”
Patricia looked confused.
“The camera.”
Patricia started crying again.
“I deleted the video.”
Lily said:
“That’s what I said.”
Seven-year-old precision.
Patricia nodded.
“Yes.”
