Chapter 7 - PATRICIA’S FIRST STATEMENTPatricia told police she had not seen Connor put anything in Lily’s mouth.
She had seen Lily crying.
She asked why.
Lily said:
“Connor made me eat his balls.”
The phrase sounded confusing.
Patricia claimed she assumed Lily meant candy.
Or a joke.
Mara asked:
“Did you ask Connor?”
“Yes.”
“What did he say?”
“That Lily took one of his magnetic beads and he scared her by saying it would stick inside her forever.”
My body went cold reading the summary later.
Patricia had heard the word magnetic.
Lily had said made me eat.
Patricia still did not call me.
Why?
Her explanation:
“I believed Connor that she had not actually swallowed anything.”
Then why tell Lily to stop making trouble?
Patricia began crying.
“Because she was screaming.”
Not good enough.
But again:
Poor judgment.
Concealment.
Potential endangerment.
Different legal questions.
Investigators would decide.

She was never being alone with Lily again.
