Chapter 14 - Victoria’s defense
Victoria never denied locking the door.
Her attorney instead attacked intent.
She claimed:
I voluntarily entered.
The room was not at full temperature.
She planned to return within minutes.
The broken window created most of the physical danger because glass could have injured me.
The note was hyperbolic family language.
She believed I was emotionally dysregulated and might drive during a medical episode.
She locked the door to prevent me from leaving until Arthur arranged transport.
That last explanation appeared only after lawyers became involved.
No message mentioned safe transport.
No call was placed to my doctor.
No car service arranged.
No one turned off the stove before locking me inside.
And the note said:
May you like
When you are ready to apologize...
Safety does not normally require an apology.
