Chapter 6 - Arthur’s first explanation
Arthur spoke to police with an attorney present.
He admitted seeing the padlock.
He admitted hearing me shout.
He admitted leaving.
His explanation:
He thought Victoria was staging a symbolic “cooling-off period.”
He believed she would immediately unlock the door after he drove to the front gate.
Why drive away?
He said he was going to retrieve my suitcase from the main house and move our cars so I could leave safely after everyone calmed down.
Video complicated that.
The mansion’s driveway cameras showed Arthur walked directly to his car.
Opened the driver’s door.
Sat inside.
Stayed there approximately ninety seconds.
Then drove away.
He did not go back inside for luggage.
He did not call Victoria.
He did not call me.
He called his business partner.
A twelve-minute conversation.

That did not prove he intended harm.
It proved his first explanation was false.
