Chapter 12 - THE TRANSFER ORDER The transfer team arrived with perfect credentials.

Two medical officers.
A federal-looking vehicle.
A sealed court order.
And a physician’s authorization bearing Dr. Bennett’s signature.
Dr. Bennett tore the authorization in half.
“I did not sign this.”
Caroline stepped forward from behind the transport officers.
She was forty-six, composed, and dressed in a gray medical coat. Nothing about her appearance suggested panic.
“Elena requires a higher level of maternal care.”
“You have no authority here,” Dr. Bennett said.
“The court disagrees.”
Detective Mara examined the order.
The judge’s signature was genuine.
The filing claimed Elena remained at risk because Luke, Evelyn, Adrian, and other Mercer relatives had compromised the hospital. It requested transfer to an independent facility.
Caroline did not disclose that she owned that facility through another company.
The judge had been given incomplete records and less than an hour to rule.
Mara contacted the courthouse directly. The order was immediately suspended pending review.
Caroline’s calm vanished.
“Delaying transfer risks the fetus.”
Dr. Bennett moved between her and the bed.
“The greatest risk is the person who sent poisoned flowers.”
Caroline looked toward Luke.
“You cannot prove I sent them.”
“No,” Luke said. “But you knew what was inside before she mentioned it.”
Caroline had revealed knowledge never shared publicly.
The transport officers stepped away from her.
They were legitimate contractors who believed the order was valid.
Caroline had used a lawful system by feeding it manufactured urgency.
She attempted to leave.
Marco blocked the elevator.
Police searched her medical case.
Inside were sedatives, new wristbands, an altered prenatal chart, and a second sealed envelope addressed to Luke.
Caroline smiled when Mara opened it.
“You all keep believing Elena wrote every warning.”
The handwriting looked exactly like Elena’s.
For Luke—Trust No One.
The original envelope had been genuine.
This one proved Caroline could imitate it.
“What was your plan?” Luke asked.
“To prevent Adrian from destroying the company.”
“By taking Elena?”
“By protecting the heir.”
“Elena is not an incubator for your shares.”
Caroline’s eyes hardened.
“The child controls Mercer Industries. Every hostile investor, criminal organization, and political opponent will target it.”
“You targeted it first.”
“I created containment.”
“You created another blue room.”
Caroline was arrested for attempted kidnapping, fraud, and possession of controlled substances.
Before officers removed her, she looked toward Elena.
“You think Adrian was afraid of the audit?”
Elena stared back.
“What was he afraid of?”
Caroline smiled.
“The audit will show that Luke’s father never owned the company he left you.”
The independent review produced its first ownership report an hour later.
The largest original block of Mercer Industries shares did not belong to the Mercer family.
It belonged to Elena’s late father.

The company bearing Luke’s surname had been built partly from assets stolen from hers.
👉 Elena was not merely carrying the Mercer heir—she may already have owned the company Adrian imprisoned her to protect.
