Chapter 7 - THE DIVORCE ATTORNEY Rachel Price had represented Elena during the divorce.
At least, that was what Luke believed.
Elena had never hired her.
Rachel appeared at the blue-room apartment two days after Evelyn moved Elena there and claimed Luke had retained her to complete a discreet separation.
She carried genuine details about the marriage, shared accounts, and private arguments.
She also had Luke’s signature.
“I thought you wanted everything finished quickly,” Elena told him.
“I never filed for divorce.”
“The papers came from your office.”
“My office sent nothing.”
Detective Mara pulled the court file.
The divorce had been processed through an emergency confidential procedure based on alleged domestic danger. Luke’s legal notice went to an abandoned corporate address, allowing the case to proceed without his response.
Adrian controlled that address.
The divorce order was legally real, built upon fraudulent service and fabricated allegations.
Rachel had not merely separated them emotionally.
She used the court to make the lie official.
Police searched her law office.
The rooms had been emptied, but a hidden server remained behind a false wall. It contained altered videos of Luke, forged messages, medical records, and financial profiles.
Rachel had specialized in creating believable exits for spouses whose assets Adrian wanted isolated.
Four previous cases involved Mercer executives.
Each spouse left suddenly.
Each later signed away property or voting rights.
Elena’s case was the first involving an unborn heir.
Marco found another file.
It carried his name.
The file contained recordings of Elena calling his private security number three months earlier.
Marco’s face changed.
“I never received these.”
The calls had been redirected to Rachel.
In one message, Elena whispered:
“Marco, I don’t believe Luke sent the divorce papers. Please tell him I’m pregnant.”
Rachel responded through a copied version of Marco’s voice:
“Luke knows. He wants no contact.”
Elena heard the recording for the first time from the hospital bed.
She turned away from Marco.
“I thought you betrayed me.”
“I didn’t.”
“I know that now.”
Marco looked toward Luke.
“I should have noticed the missing call logs.”
Luke did not excuse him.
“We all trusted systems Adrian controlled.”
Marco nodded.
“And she paid for it.”
The server also showed Rachel’s recent location.
She had accessed a Mercer company account from the hospital parking garage less than an hour earlier.
Security teams sealed the exits.
Marco descended with Detective Mara while Luke remained beside Elena.
They found Rachel inside a parked ambulance wearing a paramedic uniform.
A second woman lay unconscious in the rear.
Celeste Mercer.
Rachel had drugged her.
When arrested, Rachel demanded protection.
“Adrian will kill me.”
“You tried to poison Elena,” Mara said.
“I tried to make it look as if Celeste did.”
“That is not a defense.”
Rachel admitted impersonating Lydia and Celeste, planting the hospital IV, and delivering forged divorce papers.
But she claimed Adrian ordered only sedation, not death.
“Who ordered the drugs that caused Elena’s malnutrition?” Mara asked.
Rachel looked toward Celeste.
“Ask his wife.”
Celeste regained consciousness long enough to speak.
“Adrian didn’t start this,” she whispered.
