Chapter 11 - I MAKE A BAD CALLI called Derek.

I should not have.
There was a protective order.
Communication was supposed to go through counsel for specified issues.
I convinced myself financial urgency justified it.
He answered.
“Lena?”
“You signed my name.”
Silence.
“What?”
“The credit line.”
“You knew about that.”
“No.”
“Yes, you did.”
“Show me where I authorized it.”
He became quiet.
Then:
“You have Vincent auditing me now?”
“No.”
“Bullshit.”
“I hired an accountant.”
“Because a gangster told you to.”
I snapped.
“Vincent knows everything.”
The moment I said it, I regretted it.
Derek went silent.
Then:
“Is that a threat?”
“No.”
“It sounded like one.”
I ended the call.
My lawyer was furious.
Correctly.
Defense counsel later used it.
Lena is invoking a Mafia figure to intimidate her husband during a financial dispute.
That did not erase my broken arm.
It did create an unnecessary complication.
I apologized to my attorney.
Not to Derek.

But I documented the call.
Truth survives embarrassment better than concealment.
