Chapter 25 - THE FIRST NIGHT I LOCK A DOOR AGAINFor months, locking interior doors frightened me.

Bathroom.
Bedroom.
Hotel room.
The click of a latch triggered the sound of walnut splitting.
Therapy.
Gradual exposure.
Not dramatic.
One evening in my new condo, I took a bath.
First in months.
Phone on counter.
Door open.
Next week:
Door mostly closed.
Then closed.
Not locked.
Eventually:
Locked.
I sat in warm water for ten minutes.
Heart pounding.
Nothing happened.
No shoulder against wood.
No voice.
No six-minute countdown.
When I unlocked it, I laughed.
Then cried.
May you like
No one was outside.
That was the point.
