Chapter 12 - THE PROTECTIVE ORDER FIGHTDerek filed his own petition.

He claimed Vincent Moretti’s associates had followed him.
One black SUV outside his office.
A man photographing his building.
Anonymous calls.
I asked Vincent.
“Did you?”
“No.”
“Your men?”
“No.”
“Anyone you told?”
“No.”
“You expect me to trust that?”
“No.”
At least he understood.
Police investigated two specific incidents.
The black SUV belonged to a private investigator hired by my divorce attorney.
Legal.
The photographer was covering a corporate lawsuit involving Derek’s firm.
Unrelated.
Anonymous calls could not be traced meaningfully.
Derek’s claim of Mafia intimidation weakened.
But the judge still told me:
“Ms. Callahan, do not use Mr. Moretti’s reputation as leverage.”
“I understand.”
That warning embarrassed me.
It should have.
