Change orders.
Client withheld payment.
Julian personally guaranteed part of a business line of credit.
Amount:
$410,000.
He also invested $90,000 of our joint savings into the business without telling me the full exposure.
I had approved $40,000.
Not ninety.
Could a spouse move joint funds?
Sometimes legally, depending on account structure and intent.
That did not make concealment harmless.
Then Dad’s investigator found a personal note Julian had signed to Eleanor.
$125,000.
His mother had loaned him money.
That explained her involvement.
Not bruises.
Not yet.
The house sale would have generated enough equity to:
Pay off my mortgage.
Reimburse some claimed marital renovation contributions.
Potentially free cash Julian believed he could use in divorce or through negotiation to stabilize his business.
The problem:
He had no right to force that outcome immediately.
So he began manufacturing inevitability.
We’re listing.
You can’t afford the house alone.
The marriage is over if you refuse.
