Chapter 25 - I SELL THE HOUSETwo years after Julian told me:

“Then we’re listing this house,”
I listed it.
My choice.
That distinction was the entire point.
I had kept it after divorce.
Proved I could.
Then discovered I no longer wanted three floors, expensive maintenance, and a staircase that made me remember the night I tried to get away from him.
Could I have stayed as an act of defiance?
Yes.
Defiance is an expensive reason to replace a roof.
I called Michelle Crane.
The same realtor Julian had contacted.
She sounded surprised.
“Are you sure you want me?”
“You did nothing wrong.”
“I prepared documents for your husband without speaking to you.”
“A draft valuation.”
“Yes.”
“You stopped when my lawyer notified you.”
She paused.
“That’s fair.”
We listed.
I signed every page myself.
Asked questions.
Changed the list price by ten thousand because I felt like it.
Petty authority.
Wonderful.
The house sold six weeks later.
Good price.
No bidding-war fantasy.
I bought a smaller condo near my father.
One level.
