Julian was charged with an assault-related domestic offense after review of my injuries, statements, and corroborating evidence.
No attempted murder.
No kidnapping.
No organized financial-crime indictment attached to it for dramatic effect.
The property and business matters were investigated separately.
Julian eventually entered a negotiated plea to a misdemeanor assault-related offense.
He admitted unlawful physical contact causing injury during the argument.
He did not admit every detail exactly as I described it.
That is often what pleas look like.
The sentence involved:
Probation.
Mandatory domestic-violence intervention.
No-contact compliance.
Community service.
No prison epic.
Some relatives thought that was nothing.

It was not nothing.
It also was not the only consequence.
