Chapter 6 - THE FIRST BRUISE I PHOTOGRAPHEDThe first photo in the encrypted folder was not of my face.

It was my wrist.
Six months earlier.
Julian grabbed me during an argument about visiting Eleanor for Thanksgiving.
I wanted to leave Saturday.
Eleanor wanted us through Monday.
Julian said:
“You always create tension with my mother.”
I walked away.
He grabbed my wrist.
Hard.
I said:
“Let go.”
He did.
Immediately.
Then apologized.
No denial.
No:
You made me.
He said:
“I shouldn’t have done that.”
That apology reassured me.
I photographed the mark anyway.
Not because I thought I would need evidence.
Because something in me wanted proof for myself.
I deleted the photo from my main phone.
Then restored it from cloud trash days later.
That is how early fear behaves.
Document.
Erase.
Miss the evidence.
May you like
Recover it.
Pretend the sequence means nothing.
