Chapter 14 - My Part

Grant’s manipulation did not make every complaint about me false.
I hated that.
It would have been easier.
Dr. Byrne told me:
“Noah sometimes becomes rigid when you use command tone.”
I nodded.
“He thinks he is in trouble before you say why.”
That hurt.
At home I began noticing.
“Noah.”
He froze.
“What?”
Nothing.
My voice.
So I changed.
Not into baby talk.
Into information.
“Hey, I need your attention for homework.”
Different.
Then one night he spilled juice.
I said sharply:
“Stop.”
He froze.
Hands up.
My stomach dropped.
I softened immediately.
“Paper towels. That’s all.”
He breathed.
The punch had made him more sensitive to force.
My tone mattered more now.
I worked.
Not because Grant’s affidavit was right.

Because a manipulated accusation can contain a real detail.
Truth does not become false because someone weaponizes it.
