His therapist and child-family investigator conveyed age-appropriate preferences and observations.

Visits with Dad.

No moving.
He did not say:
Never Dad.
He loved Grant.
That made ruling more complicated and more human.
The investigator wrote:
Noah does not appear physically afraid that Grant will assault him. His principal fear is that Grant may arrange situations or make decisions without telling him or Claire.
Trust.
Not fists.
Then:
He associates the phrase “stand up for yourself” with being struck.
That sentence hurt.
