Chapter 15 - Grant’s Criminal Case

Prosecutors considered whether Grant’s conduct fit solicitation or conspiracy.

Complicated.

He encouraged pressure.

He explicitly said not to injure Noah.

He did not order the specific punch.

He did arrange a confrontation involving a vulnerable child.

The cleanest charge became a misdemeanor child-abuse/endangerment count based on knowingly permitting Noah to be placed in a situation threatening injury.

A separate attempt to manipulate evidence for family litigation was handled primarily through family-court sanctions rather than an ambitious criminal theory.

Grant pleaded after months.

One misdemeanor child endangerment count.

No felony.

No jail.

Probation.

Parenting education.

Individual therapy.

Community service.

No unsupervised contact with Noah until family court approved.

At sentencing he said:

“I told myself I was creating a controlled test.”

Then:

“There was nothing controlled about using a child to provoke another adult.”

Good.

Then:

“When Logan hit Noah, I saw my son fall.”

His voice broke.

“And I still thought about the camera.”

That was the sentence.

He did not ask Noah to forgive.

Good.
