Chapter 14 - What I missed

The investigation forced me to list warning signs.

Pippa suddenly hated the backyard.

She stopped wanting to play near Bruno’s old kennel.

I thought grief about the dog.

She once asked whether I could take the kennel away.

“One weekend.”

Never did.

She started packing snacks into her bedroom.

Camilla called it sneaking food.

A therapist later suggested it might have been connected to fear of being locked outside after dinner.

Pippa became intensely upset when I rolled my suitcase from the closet.

I interpreted separation anxiety.

Correct.

Incomplete.

There were signs.

None individually screamed what was happening.
