Chapter 20 - My responsibility

My therapist asked:

“Did you know?”

“No.”

“Did you suspect?”

“No.”

“Did you contribute to conditions where secrecy became easier?”

I hated the question.

“Yes.”

I traveled too much.

Assumed Camilla would tell me if overwhelmed.

Allowed her to manage most weekday routines.

Ignored some signs because I wanted marriage and work both to feel stable.

I also sometimes undermined her in front of Pippa.

If Camilla said no dessert and I came home after three days away, I might give ice cream.

If bedtime had been difficult, I would let Pippa sleep beside me.

Affection driven by guilt.

Camilla interpreted it as sabotage.

Again:

None of that made the kennel my fault.

But good accountability is not a pie where giving myself a slice removes hers.
