Chapter 20 - My responsibility

My therapist asked:
“Did you know?”
“No.”
“Did you suspect?”
“No.”
“Did you contribute to conditions where secrecy became easier?”
I hated the question.
“Yes.”
I traveled too much.
Assumed Camilla would tell me if overwhelmed.
Allowed her to manage most weekday routines.
Ignored some signs because I wanted marriage and work both to feel stable.
I also sometimes undermined her in front of Pippa.
If Camilla said no dessert and I came home after three days away, I might give ice cream.
If bedtime had been difficult, I would let Pippa sleep beside me.
Affection driven by guilt.
Camilla interpreted it as sabotage.

None of that made the kennel my fault.
But good accountability is not a pie where giving myself a slice removes hers.
