Chapter 18 - The main truth

Camilla did not plan to abandon Pippa permanently.
She did not intend to starve her.
She did not keep her outside continuously for days.
The suitcase did not prove a kidnapping plan.
The truth was narrower.
And serious enough.
Camilla developed a punishment system for my travel periods.
She called it:
reset nights.
If Pippa lied, left her bedroom, cried “for attention,” sneaked food, or refused instructions, Camilla could send her to the kennel.
Sometimes ten minutes.
Sometimes an hour.
At least twice, according to corroborated evidence, Pippa remained there for several nighttime hours.
On one documented occasion she fell asleep outside before being brought back inside.
The pillow and blanket became permanent kennel items.
The portable toilet allowed Camilla to avoid unlocking the door for bathroom requests.
The suitcase was prepared because I was scheduled to leave for four nights.
Camilla intended to keep pajamas and spare clothing near the kennel so Pippa could no longer use changing clothes or forgotten items to interrupt a “reset.”
That was why several days of clothing were packed.
Not because Pippa would remain outside for four consecutive days.
Because Camilla anticipated multiple punishment periods while I was away.

That distinction mattered legally.
It did not comfort me as a father.
