Chapter 24 - Greer’s letter

Greer wrote Pippa a letter.
We did not deliver it immediately.
Her therapist reviewed it.
Then I did.
Pippa, I saw things that made me uncomfortable and I waited too long to tell someone. Adults are supposed to help when a child is scared, even if another adult says everything is fine. I am sorry I did not help sooner.
No excuses about needing the job.
Good.
Then:
You never had to be quieter so I could feel less worried.
That line hit me.
Pippa read the letter at seven.
She asked:
“Is Greer bad?”
“No.”
“Camilla?”
I sighed.
“You really like this question.”
“Yes.”
“People are bigger than one word.”
“She put me in cage.”
“Yes.”
“That was bad.”
“Yes.”
