Chapter 9 - Greer’s notebook

Greer had kept notes.

Not because she was building a lawsuit.

Because she became frightened she would eventually be blamed.

Small spiral notebook.

Dates.

Times.

What she observed.

One entry:

May 8 — P in kennel 8:40-9:05. Crying. C said lying about cookie.

Another:

May 19 — outside at 10:20. Blanket. Door locked. B away Atlanta.

Another:

June 2 — C said “reset night.” P outside until after midnight. Checked through kitchen window.

I read the pages once.

Then handed them back to my lawyer.

“How many?”

Lena said:

“At least six documented incidents. Possibly more based on Pippa’s account.”

Six.

I had traveled nine times during that period.

I remembered FaceTime calls.

Pippa sometimes looked tired.

Camilla said nightmares.

One night Pippa asked:

“Daddy, when do you come home?”

I thought she missed me.

May you like

She did.

I had not understood why.
