Victoria’s late husband appeared on screen three years before his death. His hair had turned white, and illness hollowed his face.
“If Amelia or Rose ever sees this, I am sorry.”
Victoria sat down.
Charles admitted learning about the twins twelve years after the kidnapping.
Elena contacted him secretly and revealed Rose survived.
By then, Edmund had built surveillance around both girls.
Charles wanted to expose everything.
Walter warned that Edmund would kill Grace, Samuel, and Lila.
Charles chose silence.
Victoria stared at her husband’s image.
“You knew.”
The recording continued.
“I told myself I was protecting Victoria from another grief. In truth, I was protecting my fear of what Edmund would do.”
Charles transferred company shares into hidden accounts intended for both daughters. Walter later intercepted some, but not all.
He also created an independent evidence fund managed by a law firm in Boston.
The fund had been paying investigators for years.
One investigator was Rachel.
Charles found her shortly before his death.
He told her Victoria did not know.
Rachel refused to believe him.
“She asked why I never brought her home,” Charles said. “I had no answer worthy of a father.”
Lila looked toward Victoria.
The woman had been surrounded by people who claimed love while deciding which truths she could survive.
Charles’s final confession concerned Ethan.
He discovered the adoption was fraudulent but feared losing the boy if he challenged it publicly.
“I chose to remain his father,” he said. “But I failed to search for the mother who lost him.”
Ethan left the room before the recording ended.
Lila found him outside near the frozen fountain.
“He loved you.”
“He also accepted the theft because returning me might cost him.”
“You were a child, not property to return.”
“My mother was still robbed.”
“Yes.”
Ethan looked toward Briar House.
“Every parent in this story loved someone and failed someone else.”
Lila thought of Grace, Samuel, Victoria, Charles, Elena, Judith, and even Rebecca.
Love had existed.
It had never been enough to prevent control.
The Boston law firm confirmed Charles’s evidence fund.
Its current beneficiary was listed as A. Rose.
Rachel had access.
She used the money to investigate Edmund and Walter.
She also financed the wedding operation.
The flowers, false guest registration, photographer access, and anonymous messages all came through companies connected to the fund.
Rachel orchestrated the public reveal.
Not Edmund.
Phase Rose belonged partly to her.
Why would she follow a plan designed to hurt Victoria?
Perhaps she believed only public humiliation could break the family’s silence.
Perhaps she wanted Lila to hate Victoria before learning they were sisters.
Charles’s recording ended with coordinates to a storage facility.
Inside, investigators found letters he wrote to both daughters.
Lila opened hers.
You were called Amelia because your mother believed hope should have a name. If you prefer Lila, then Lila is the name hope became.
Rachel’s letter read:
You were called Rose by the woman who refused to let Edmund erase you. Your mother never rejected you. I did, through fear.
Victoria cried when she read both.
A third letter was addressed to Ethan.
It contained the name of Laura Cross’s last known employer.
The Vale Family Office.
Ethan’s biological mother may have remained inside Edmund’s network.
Before they could follow the lead, Elaine Brooks discovered unusual activity in the Ashford trust.
Someone used Rachel’s credentials to transfer fifty million dollars into Charles’s evidence fund.
The transaction occurred after the wedding.
Rachel was gathering resources.
For exposure.
Escape.
Or war.
A message appeared in the law firm’s secure portal.
THE FIRST CHILDREN ARE READY TO SPEAK. DO NOT LET VICTORIA SIGN ANYTHING.
The message included a date and location.
St. Catherine’s annual memorial gala.
The same hospital that created Project Constellation would host wealthy donors in three weeks.
Rachel intended to reveal the children publicly.
