They believed secrecy would defend heirs.

Evelyn objected to any future marital pairing between Clara and Andrew.

Someone overruled her.
The authorization carried Samuel Price’s seal.
The officiant had manipulated their lives for thirty years.
Patricia looked toward Andrew.
“I did not know David was Clara’s uncle.”
“You knew the donor’s first name.”
“He used no surname.”
“Did Richard know?”
“Yes.”
Richard concealed the connection to protect the child from inheritance claims.
Another loving decision built from secrecy.
The ledger described Evelyn’s crash.
She scheduled a meeting with federal investigators to surrender the archive.
Thomas drove.
Richard followed in another car.
Samuel’s agents forced Thomas’s vehicle off the road.
Richard rescued Thomas before the fire spread but could not find Evelyn.
Her body was identified through jewelry and dental records later proven altered.
No verified remains existed.
Clara pressed both hands against the table.
“My mother could have survived.”
Thomas’s cassette had called her dead.
But he might not know.
Or he might be lying.
The final backup page showed an emergency payment to a medical clinic under the name Eve Lawrence.
The payments continued for nineteen years after the crash.
Then stopped on the same date Leonard Cross died.
Daniel’s face tightened.
“My brother found her.”
Naomi traced the clinic to Nova Scotia.
The facility specialized in neurological rehabilitation and memory loss.
Eve Lawrence had been transferred before federal teams arrived.
Destination unknown.
Her emergency contact was Thomas Mason.
Clara felt betrayal sharpen again.
Her father knew Evelyn might be alive.
Why keep both parents from her?
A message reached Bellemont’s server.
It contained a scan of Evelyn’s stolen ledger and a live image of Thomas sitting inside an unfamiliar room.
Samuel stood behind him.
Thomas appeared restrained.
Samuel addressed the camera.
“Bring the rings and deed appendix to the original ballroom.”
Clara looked at Daniel.
“Which ballroom?”
Bellemont’s grand ballroom had been built over an older ceremonial hall sealed beneath the estate.
The tunnel map called it the Marriage Room.
Meridian Crown’s first contracts were signed there.
Samuel continued.
“At midnight, Clara Mason will complete the union her mother interrupted.”
Andrew looked toward the screen.
“With whom?”
Samuel smiled.
“Not with you.”
A man stepped into frame beside Thomas.
He wore a dark tuxedo and carried a wedding license.
Clara recognized him from old photographs.
