Chapter 21 - Bellemont Under SiegeClara returned to her estate aboard a federal helicopter.

Smoke rose from the western vineyard, but the main buildings remained intact.
Guests from the interrupted wedding had long gone.
White chairs still filled the chapel because Clara had refused to remove them until the investigation completed.
Now armed Meridian guards occupied the grounds.
Beatrice had transformed the wedding venue into a fortress using tunnels Clara never knew existed.
Daniel and Leonard escaped restraint through a service shaft. They met Clara near the old wine cellar.
“Patricia and Catherine are in the ballroom,” Daniel said.
“Beatrice?”
“Underground.”
Andrew arrived with Naomi’s second team.
Clara looked at him.
“You were told to remain in Washington.”
“Daniel’s message came to me.”
“He told you to run.”
“Toward the only place that mattered.”
The statement sounded romantic and dangerous.
Clara did not reward it.
“Follow Naomi’s orders.”
Andrew nodded.
The grand ballroom had been restored to its wedding configuration.
Flower arch.
Marble aisle.
White roses.
The torn lace pieces had been arranged across the altar like ceremonial ribbons.
Patricia and Catherine stood on opposite sides wearing white gowns.
Beatrice appeared through the sound system.
“One bride destroys. One bride designs. The owner chooses which function survives.”
Clara entered alone while agents moved beneath the floor.
Patricia looked terrified.
Catherine looked composed.
“Choose neither,” Clara said.
Beatrice laughed.
“Refusal continues to disappoint me.”
The succession contract required Clara to appoint either Patricia as relational custodian or Catherine as ceremonial custodian.
If she refused, Bellemont ownership would transfer to the Crown Heir.
Julian.
He appeared on a balcony above them.
Clara stared.
He was supposed to remain hospitalized.
Julian held one hand over his bandaged shoulder.
“Beatrice’s people took me.”
“Are you with her?” Clara asked.
“I don’t know anymore.”
The honesty carried despair.
Beatrice offered him freedom and authority in exchange for accepting the vault.
He had refused so far.
But the system had begun biometric transfer automatically.
Clara moved toward the altar.
The original ownership contract lay open.
Beside it rested Andrew’s wedding ring and her own.
Beatrice intended to complete the key exchange through another pair.
Patricia pleaded with Clara.
“Choose Catherine.”
Catherine turned.
“You would condemn me?”
“I would rather she choose someone trained than someone cruel enough to tear that dress.”
Patricia’s self-condemnation surprised everyone.
Catherine looked at Clara.
“Choose Patricia. She finally understands harm.”
Both women attempted sacrifice.
Beatrice had designed competition.
Regret disrupted it.
Clara tore the succession contract in half.
The ballroom screens activated.
Bellemont’s deed began transferring to Julian.
He shouted from the balcony.
“I reject it.”
The system continued.
Andrew placed his biometric ring against the receiver.
His Mason-Whitlock compatibility interrupted Julian’s claim.
A new option appeared.
MARITAL SUCCESSOR.
Clara stared at him.
“You activated it.”
“To stop Julian.”
“You brought the wedding path back.”
“I know.”
The transfer now required Clara either to marry Andrew legally or allow Julian’s automatic succession.
Beatrice had preserved both outcomes.
Naomi’s agents reached the control chamber but found Beatrice behind armored glass.
Clara looked at Andrew.
He removed the ring.
“I won’t ask you.”
“If you reject the path, Julian takes control.”
“Then we fight him afterward.”
Julian heard.
“I don’t want it.”
No option respected their wishes.
Catherine approached the flower arch.
“The gown map.”
The torn lace contained the emergency shutdown sequence Evelyn created.
Pieces had been arranged incorrectly by Beatrice.
Clara, Patricia, and Catherine worked together to reconstruct the original train across the marble.
The floral pattern aligned.
A hidden line pointed toward the chandelier switch.
Andrew climbed the altar structure and pulled the emergency chain.
Power failed.
The transfer stopped at ninety-eight percent.
Federal agents breached the armored room.
Beatrice’s bed was empty.
A blood line led toward another tunnel.
Patricia collapsed beside the repaired lace.
Catherine stared at the halted screen.
Julian’s name remained listed as provisional owner.
Clara still held legal title, but Meridian’s system recognized Julian.
Before the network shut down, Beatrice transmitted one final message.
THE VENUE WAS NEVER CLARA’S. ASK EVELYN WHO SIGNED THE FIRST DEED.
Evelyn arrived moments later and saw the message.
Her face emptied.
“I did.”
Clara turned.

Evelyn whispered, “But I signed it under another daughter’s name.”
👉 Clara stopped the succession ceremony before losing Bellemont, but Evelyn revealed the estate’s original ownership belonged to a hidden daughter no one had yet identified.
