Chapter 17 - The Child Before ClaraEvelyn remembered the first pregnancy only in fragments.

She was seventeen.
Beatrice controlled the boarding school and convinced the Mason family that scandal would destroy Evelyn’s future.
The baby was taken immediately after birth.
Evelyn was told he died.
Years later, she discovered a boy inside Everwhite records with her genetic markers.
The file named him Crown Heir.
She tried to remove him from the system.
The crash happened two weeks later.
DNA testing confirmed Julian was Evelyn’s biological son.
His father remained unknown.
Julian sat inside the conservatory while Clara absorbed the result.
“I knew Beatrice wasn’t my grandmother,” he said. “I didn’t know who my mother was.”
“Did she tell you to marry me?”
“She told me the Mason daughter was a distant relation through trust, not blood.”
“You investigated everyone else.”
“I was forbidden from accessing my own file.”
The system kept even its chosen heir ignorant.
Andrew learned the truth through the command channel.
His face showed grief and relief.
Julian could never replace him as Clara’s husband.
But their shared childhood remained contaminated by another design.
Clara asked Julian where Beatrice was.
He led her beneath the conservatory.
The Bridekeeper lay inside a medical room surrounded by monitors. Samuel stood beside her.
He had arrived before federal teams could secure the lower level.
Thomas, Evelyn, and Michael were being held in adjacent rooms after their transport vehicle was redirected through cloned orders.
Samuel controlled the doors.
“Family gathering,” he said.
Beatrice looked weaker than at the chapel.
“Julian,” she whispered. “Bring Clara closer.”
He did not move.
“You lied about my mother.”
“I gave you one capable of raising you.”
“You trained me to marry my sister.”
“I trained you to secure a dynasty. The biological complication was discovered late.”
Clara felt disgust rise.
People remained assets even at the edge of death.
Samuel activated the Marriage Room interface remotely.
Bellemont’s underground chamber began unlocking.
The real ceremony did not require a physical wedding anymore.
It required Clara, Julian, Evelyn, and two Mason twin identities in one authenticated network.
By gathering everyone, Julian had completed the biometric constellation.
“You used me to bring them here,” he said.
Samuel smiled.
“You were always useful.”
Federal agents attempted to breach.
The medical wing sealed.
Beatrice looked toward Clara.
“I can transfer control to you.”
“I don’t want it.”
“You want the archive protected.”
“I want people protected from the archive.”
“Without control, someone worse takes it.”
The same justification followed every tyrant.
Clara refused.
Samuel began draining oxygen from Evelyn’s room.
Julian lunged for the controls.
Samuel shot him in the shoulder.
Clara pressed her ownership ring against the emergency panel.
The ring’s chip recognized her as Bellemont owner and activated fire protocols across all linked Meridian properties.
Doors opened.
Naomi’s team entered.
Samuel escaped through a medical passage with Beatrice’s bed.
Julian survived.
Thomas and Michael carried Evelyn out together.
The underground chamber at Bellemont opened fully during the emergency protocol.
Daniel reported an entire lower vault had become accessible.
Inside were marriage contracts, blood samples, financial records, and video archives spanning seventy years.
The evidence could destroy Meridian Crown.
Or expose thousands of private family secrets unrelated to crimes.
Clara became temporary custodian through the ring activation.
She had refused control.
The system gave it to her anyway.
Julian woke after surgery.
“Did I complete it?”
“No,” Clara said. “Samuel did.”
“I brought everyone.”
“You were manipulated.”
“I also chose secrecy.”
“Yes.”
He looked toward her.
“What am I to you?”
Clara considered carefully.
“My brother biologically.”
“Family?”
“That will depend on what we build, not what they named.”
The vault produced one final surprise.
Evelyn’s earliest file listed Julian’s father.
Samuel Price.
Samuel had fathered a child with Evelyn under Beatrice’s control, then raised him as a grandson and groom candidate.
Julian was Samuel’s son.
The Price line and Mason line united inside him.
The Crown Heir had not been designed to marry Clara only for property.
Beatrice intended siblings to produce an heir carrying every founder bloodline.
The horror of the plan silenced the entire room.
Then a message arrived from Samuel.
