Claudia called it abandonment.
I called it the result of watching her hold my daughter by the hair.
Divorce court was not criminal court.
The house was marital property subject to agreements and state law.
My company interest was governed partly by the prenuptial agreement and valuation rules.
Claudia did not become penniless because she behaved terribly.
She had rights.
So did I.
We divided:
House equity.
Joint savings.
Vehicles.
Personal property.
Her consulting business remained hers.
My pre-marital Halcyon shares remained largely separate under the prenup, with disputes about marital appreciation resolved through experts.
No revenge windfall.
No dramatic:
You get nothing.
Sophie was not Claudia’s biological child and Claudia had never adopted her.
Her legal path to continued parental access was therefore limited and dependent on state law and the circumstances.
