Chapter 10 - The Bride Without an AudienceFelicity looked around the ballroom for support.

The bridesmaids who had laughed moments earlier now avoided her eyes.
Guests whispered behind raised hands.
Even the master of ceremonies had moved away from the microphone stand.
Felicity lifted her chin.
“This is still my wedding.”
No one responded.
She turned toward Adrian.
“Tell them to stop.”
Adrian stared at her as though trying to recognize the woman beneath the bridal makeup.
“Did you know the money came from Jenna?”
“No.”
“Did you know the invitation was hers?”
Felicity hesitated.
“Yes, but—”
“Did you know Silas believed he was inviting the nurse who saved me?”
“I knew he wanted to thank someone from the hospital.”
“Did you let him believe that person was you?”
Felicity’s composure cracked.
“I never corrected him.”
Adrian stepped backward.
The distinction offered no protection.
Felicity reached for his hand.
He withdrew it.
“You said our meeting happened for a reason,” he said.
“It did.”
“You made sure it happened.”
“Because you would never have noticed me otherwise!”
The confession burst from her before she could stop it.
The room went completely still.
Felicity looked toward Jenna.
Years of resentment sharpened her face.
“People notice her when she does nothing. They call her brave because she works in a hospital. They forgive everything because she looks tired and noble.”
Jenna rose slowly.
“I never asked you to compete with me.”
“You didn’t have to.”
Felicity’s voice trembled with rage.
“You were always the tragic daughter. The grieving nurse. The responsible one. I wanted one thing that belonged to me.”
Silas looked at the floral gown, the chandeliers, and the ballroom filled with his family’s guests.
“You built this wedding on something that did not belong to you.”
Felicity’s fingers opened.
May you like
The microphone slipped from her hand and struck the carpeted aisle with a dull thud.
👉 Without the microphone or the laughter, Felicity finally had to face the truth she had spent years controlling.
