Chapter 4 - The Invitation That VanishedSilas faced Felicity for the first time.

“Why would this be ridiculous?”

Felicity forced a laugh.

“Because Jenna exaggerates. She always has.”

Richard immediately nodded beside Jenna.

“She was only doing her job.”

Silas’s expression hardened.

“Doing her job saved my son.”

The guests stopped shifting.

No one reached for champagne.

No one dared laugh.

Silas turned back to Jenna.

“I tried to find you.”

Jenna frowned.

“You did?”

“I sent a letter to the address the hospital provided after you agreed they could forward it.”

Jenna remembered signing a form permitting the hospital foundation to send professional correspondence to her family home.

At the time, she had been between apartments and still received important mail at Richard’s Manhattan townhouse.

Silas continued.

“There was a personal letter, an invitation to our foundation gala, and information about a nursing grant.”

Jenna stared at him.

“I never received any of that.”

At the head table, Felicity’s hand began trembling around the microphone.

Adrian noticed.

His gaze narrowed.

Silas looked toward his son.

“The gala was where you met Felicity.”

A silence heavier than the chandeliers settled over the ballroom.

Adrian turned slowly toward his bride.

Felicity’s lips parted, but no words came.

Three years earlier, she had arrived at the Montgomery Foundation gala holding an invitation addressed to a member of the Hale family.

She had told Adrian she had received it because of her connection to the hospital team that saved him.

She had described sitting near the trauma unit.

She had spoken of hearing the machines, seeing his father’s fear, and understanding how fragile life could be.

Adrian had believed their meeting was fate.

Now he looked at Jenna.

“You never attended that gala?”

“I didn’t know it existed.”

Adrian turned back to Felicity.

“Whose invitation did you use?”

Felicity lowered the microphone completely.

Richard stared at the tablecloth.

That movement told Jenna everything.

Her father knew.

👉 The letter meant for Jenna had not been lost in the mail—it had been placed directly into Felicity’s hands.
