Chapter 11 - The Nurse Who Refused a RewardSilas turned toward Jenna.

“There is something else you should know.”

Jenna looked exhausted.

“What?”

“The morning after Adrian’s surgery, I offered the hospital a private donation in your name.”

She shook her head.

“I didn’t know.”

“The nursing director told me you refused any personal payment.”

Jenna remembered the conversation now.

A hospital administrator had mentioned that a grateful family wanted to compensate the trauma team. Jenna declined because accepting personal money from a patient’s family violated her values.

She had not known the family was the Montgomerys.

Silas continued.

“You asked that any donation go toward the emergency assistance fund for uninsured patients.”

Jenna glanced toward Adrian.

He stared at her with something deeper than gratitude.

Felicity looked away.

All the details she had borrowed from Silas’s letter had omitted the one part she could never imitate.

Jenna had refused to profit from saving him.

Richard folded his arms.

“She could afford to be idealistic.”

Jenna turned sharply.

“I was working two jobs.”

“You chose that career.”

“Yes.”

Her voice became firm.

“I chose a career where someone’s worst night matters more than my comfort.”

Silas nodded.

“That is why I remembered you.”

He reached into his tuxedo jacket and removed a small folded card.

“I have carried your name for three years.”

The card had been rewritten after the original letter went unanswered. It contained the spelling Silas believed correct.

Jenna Hale.

Felicity saw it and went pale.

She had always assumed Silas had forgotten.

Instead, he had carried the name into the ballroom.

Adrian looked at his bride.

“Did you ever intend to tell me?”

Felicity’s eyes filled with tears.

“I thought it stopped mattering once you loved me.”

Adrian’s expression twisted.

May you like

“It mattered every time you let me thank you for something she did.”

👉 Felicity believed love would erase the original lie, but Adrian had just realized gratitude was the foundation of their entire relationship.
