Chapter 28 - The Line at the BottomThat night, Jenna read Silas’s original letter alone.

The first pages matched what he had described.

Gratitude.

Details from the trauma room.

An invitation to the foundation gala.

Information about the fellowship.

At the bottom of the final page, beneath his signature, Silas had added a handwritten note.

My son may never remember your face, but I will make certain he grows into a man worthy of the life you helped return to him.

Jenna read the sentence twice.

Adrian had been worthy in the ballroom.

He had not defended Felicity blindly.

He had not blamed Jenna for the truth.

He had stopped the marriage certificate and accepted public grief rather than preserve a private lie.

Silas had kept his promise as best any parent could.

Jenna folded the letter carefully.

The next day, she visited Silas’s office.

He looked surprised when she placed the original envelope on his desk.

“Felicity returned it.”

Silas touched the handwriting.

“I thought this was destroyed.”

“She kept everything.”

“Are you all right?”

Jenna nodded.

“I read the final line.”

Silas looked toward the city windows.

“I wrote that while Adrian was unconscious.”

“You raised him to walk away when truth became painful.”

“I wish I had recognized the lie sooner.”

“So does he.”

Silas turned toward her.

“Felicity came to you?”

“Yes.”

“Did she apologize?”

“She began.”

Silas understood.

Some apologies took minutes.

Accountability took years.

Jenna placed a copy of the letter inside the Night Shift Initiative archive.

Not as proof that she saved a wealthy man.

As proof that gratitude could be stolen, delayed, distorted, and still eventually find the correct person.

Her name had finally reached her.

Three years late.

But intact.

👉 The letter closed the oldest wound, while Jenna’s father still faced the question of whether he deserved any place in her future.
