Chapter 27 - Felicity Returns Without the GownFelicity waited beneath the stone archway outside the university nursing building.

No embroidered gown.
No microphone.
No polished audience.
She wore a plain beige coat and held a small cardboard box.
Jenna stopped several feet away.
“How did you find me?”
“Dad told me.”
Jenna made a note to reinforce that boundary later.
Felicity looked thinner.
Not broken.
Not transformed.
Simply stripped of the performance that once entered every room before her.
“I came to return something.”
She opened the box.
Inside was Silas’s original letter.
The envelope had yellowed slightly at the edges. Jenna’s name remained visible across the front.
Jenna Hale.
Beneath it lay the gala invitation and an unopened copy of the fellowship brochure.
“You kept them?”
Felicity nodded.
“At first because I needed the details. Later because I was afraid someone would find them.”
Jenna lifted the letter.
Silas’s handwriting filled several pages.
He described the trauma room, Jenna’s courage, and the hope that his family could thank her properly.
Felicity began crying.
“I hated you before I understood why.”
Jenna said nothing.
“You made people feel safe without trying. I thought if I took the invitation, I could become the kind of person people remembered.”
“You could have become someone worth remembering without stealing from me.”
Felicity looked away.
“I know.”
Jenna did not offer forgiveness.
Not yet.
Perhaps not ever.
But she accepted the box.
“Are you going to tell Adrian I returned it?”
“No.”
Felicity nodded slowly.
For the first time, she did not ask Jenna to carry a message, soften a consequence, or repair a relationship.
She turned to leave.
“Felicity.”
She stopped.
Jenna held the letter against her chest.
“Returning this was the first honest thing you have done for me.”
Felicity’s shoulders shook once.

Then she walked away.
👉 Felicity finally returned the stolen letter, but Jenna would discover one final handwritten line Silas had never mentioned.
