Chapter 10 - THE PILLS

Toxicology identified clonazepam.
I had no prescription.
Caleb did.
A bottle in his name had been filled ten days earlier.
He said:
“Rebecca asked for something because she was panicking.”
I did not remember asking.
Could I have?
Maybe.
Jenna said:
“No.”
Again, she did not get to decide.
I searched my texts.
At 6:41 p.m.:
ME:
My back is killing me.
CALEB:
Take the two white ones on counter before we go. They’ll relax you.
I stared.
No mention clonazepam.
I replied:
Okay.
So I consented to taking pills.
Not knowing what they were.
Medical expert later explained two tablets could impair balance depending dose, tolerance, body size, other factors.
Did Caleb intend impairment?
Unknown.
He claimed he thought I knew the medication.
Could prosecutors prove otherwise?
Maybe not.
