Chapter 9 - THE SITE
The house where I fell was one of Caleb’s projects.
Two-story modern build.
Framing complete.
Drywall incomplete.
Temporary railings required around stair openings.
On the day of my fall, one railing section was missing.
Caleb said a subcontractor removed it that morning.
OSHA-related site records showed no workers after 4:00 p.m.
We arrived around 7:10.
Why go there?
I remembered.
Caleb said the financial documents were in the site office trailer.
He wanted to show me:
“It’s not what you think.”
I followed.
Bad choice?
Maybe.
Marriage makes people enter unfinished buildings with people they still hope will explain themselves.
Site camera system existed.
Cloud-enabled.
Caleb told police cameras were not yet activated.
Installer records showed they were.
Account administrator:
Caleb.
Data from that evening:
Deleted at 9:02 p.m.
My fall was at approximately 7:43.
Why delete?
His attorney said Caleb panicked over company liability after the accident and removed footage on advice from nobody.
That explanation did not help him.
Could deleted video be recovered?
