Chapter 15 - My leg gets blamed

Rachel’s attorney attempted to use my medical condition to explain the party.
Not that I hallucinated.
That pain medication and limited mobility made me irritable.
I had been prescribed stronger medication immediately after the cycling accident.
By the birthday I was using only occasional over-the-counter pain relief.
Medical records confirmed.
Still, Rachel told relatives:
“Rebecca was medicated and unstable.”
Dad repeated a softer version:
“She’d been difficult since the accident.”
My attorney asked:
“Were you?”
“Yes.”
She looked up.
“I was in pain. I was tired. I snapped at people.”
“Did you threaten Rachel physically?”
“No.”
“Did you swing the crutch?”
“No.”
“Did you fall because she pushed you?”
“Yes.”
Accuracy does not require being pleasant.
That became one of my favorite lessons.
I had been irritable.

Rachel still shoved me.
Dad still took the crutch.
