Chapter 8 - Rachel’s first story
Rachel told police the shove was accidental.
She said she reached toward me as I moved.
The video made that difficult.
Then:
“I was trying to stop her from knocking over the cake.”
Again difficult.
The cake fell because I did.
Then she shifted.
She admitted making physical contact.
Said she was angry.
Said I had been insulting her.
That part became subjective.
Had I mocked her finances?
No.
Had I called the refinance ridiculous?
Yes.
Had I told Daniel earlier Rachel was “turning his son’s inheritance into a credit card”?
Yes.
Not kind.
But words do not retroactively make a shove accidental.
Dad’s story was stranger.
He claimed I “went after Rachel.”
Video showed me on the floor after being shoved.
He said he took the crutch because I was “swinging it.”
I never had the chance.
Then his attorney reviewed the footage.
Dad’s statement changed.
He admitted taking the crutch in anger.
Said the strike was intended to hit the carpet beside me.
Video showed otherwise.
Not squarely to my head.

He stopped trying to explain geometry after that.
