Chapter 15 - What Vanessa wanted signed
Investigators found a draft document on Vanessa’s laptop.
Not a will.
Not a fake adoption.
A proposed amendment to my estate plan.
Prepared by a lawyer Vanessa had contacted for “general family planning.”
It suggested appointing a spouse as co-trustee of certain family assets.
I had never approved it.
Never seen it.
Vanessa claimed she was gathering options before our engagement.
Legal.
People are allowed to research.
Then investigators found an email from Vanessa:
Graham is emotionally exhausted and becomes more flexible when he finally sleeps. I need him to stop treating every discussion about Lily like an attack.
That sentence changed the tone.
Flexible when he finally sleeps.
My attorney stared at it.
“Do not decide what it means before we know.”
