Chapter 24 - My apology to Lily
I apologized to Lily for something different.
Not dating Vanessa.
Adults cannot promise children they will predict every betrayal.
I apologized for letting Vanessa become the interpreter of Lily’s feelings when Lily was standing right there.
We sat on the living-room floor.
Bun between us.
I signed:
“Sometimes I listened to Vanessa explain you instead of asking you.”
Lily nodded immediately.
Brutal.
“I am sorry.”
She signed:
“You were lazy.”
I laughed.
“That too.”
Then:
“Next time?”
“I ask you.”
She considered.
Then signed:
“Unless I am sleeping.”
“Fair.”
That changed our household.
Not every four-year-old thought became law.
She still had bedtime.
