Chapter 9 - My mistake

Two days after the laboratory result, I confronted Vanessa by text.
My lawyer had told me not to.
I did it anyway.
You drugged my glass while my daughter watched you.
Vanessa replied:
You have no idea what you’re talking about.
I wrote:
I know enough. Stay away from Lily.
Then:
If you come near her again I will make sure everyone knows exactly what you are.
Bad message.
Emotionally understandable.
Legally unhelpful.
Vanessa’s attorney later used it to argue I was coordinating a public campaign against her.
I had also posted a vague statement online:
Believe your children before you believe adults who are better at sounding reasonable.
No name.
Everybody knew.
I deleted it.
Too late.
My attorney, Jonathan Pike, said:
“You need to decide whether you want to win the internet or preserve the evidence.”
“I don’t want either.”
May you like
“Then stop feeding one.”
I did.
